The Athlone ¾ Marathon race route is a fantastic running experience and was universally well received by the 2010 and 2011 participants.
Our aim is to provide a route that is scenic, challenging and safe and is an ideal Dublin or other autumn Marathon preparathon event as clearly demonstrated by our 2011 winners Gary O Hanlon and Linda Byrne (Qualifying run for 2012 Olympics!)
Athlone, or more specifically the nearby village of Glasson, provides an ideal midlands base with good access from all parts of the country.
Directions to the Race Start at the Glasson Golf Hotel are given HERE
The course takes in magnificent lakeside views around Lough Ree, quite country roads, and local historical sites - checkout previous race pics in our gallery section or on the Action Photography website.
We will have chip timing, with splits for each quarter-marathon, to verify the achievement of your ¾ marathon personal best.

The route has rolling hills, with the profile illustrated in the diagram below. Most of the hills are in the first half of the route (similar to Dublin Marathon). Please be aware of the diagram scale with elevation shown in feet - there is less than 150 metres of climbing over the course of the route.
